Many people in this group have experience with LPR. Listen to your doctor, that it can cause cancer, so I suggest you use the omeprazole until you have healing. When the need to clear your throat etc gets better you can see if you can take it once instead of twice a day, and/or lower the dosage (40 to 20 mg), and slowly wean it down and replace with an H2 blocker (famotidine).
